In March, a true American icon teams up with one of America's most acclaimed graphic novelists. March is a vivid, first-hand account of John Lewis' lifelong struggle for civil and human rights (including his key roles in the historic 1963 March on Washington and the 1965 Selma-Montgomery March), meditating in the modern age on the distance traveled since the days of Jim Crow and segregation. Volume one of March, a graphic novel trilogy co-authored by Congressman John Lewis (Georgia-5) and Andrew Aydin, with art by Nate Powell (a New York Times bestseller, Eisner Award winner, and finalist for the LA Times Book Prize). John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, Nate Powell (artist), 2013

The plot of I Found You is gripping and compelling but, as always with Lisa. With another writer, I would be trying to solve the mystery by chapter two, but Lisa's books are so deliciously immersive, like a warm scented bath, you don't want to jump ahead to find out what happened, preferring to lie back and let the story wash over you. Three separate strands, three very different characters with one dark mystery at its core. I thought nothing could top The Girls, then along came I Found You. A proper thriller with wonderful characters. In this case, I ended up reading the whole thing in a day which is always a pleasure, and makes you feel as if you've had a little holiday from your own life. I've never read a book by Lisa that I didn't love. Fresh and intriguing, with characters so real I ached for them. Yet Beatrice needs more than rumors to uncover the truth. Rumors abound that the Forbidden Rings of Aphrodite, said to give their possessor the most unnatural powers, have surfaced in London. Indeed, she knows enough about gothic terrors to have carved out a highly successful career penning "horrid novels." But now the talented authoress finds herself in the midst of an ominous adventure that rivals anything she's ever written. Her beloved Uncle Reggie is dead, Beatrice suspects that he was murdered - all because of his keen interest in a fabled treasure that may not even exist. Beatrice Poole may be a vicar's daughter, but that doesn't mean she's a stranger to the darker passions. Moore's characterization is as sophisticated as any novel's. The story concerns a group called the Crimebusters and a plot to kill and discredit them. It won a comic award at the time (the 1987 Jack Kirby Comics Industry Awards for Best Writer/Artist combination) and has continued to gather praise since. Moore, renowned for many other of the genre's finest creations ( Saga of the Swamp Thing, V for Vendetta, and From Hell, with Eddie Campbell) first put out Watchmen in 12 issues for DC in 1986-87. Why? Because Moore is a better writer, and Watchmen a more complex and dark and literate creation than Miller's fantastic, subversive take on the Batman myth. Has any comic been as acclaimed as Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' Watchmen? Possibly only Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns, but Watchmen remains the critics' favorite. It’s an intense short novel set during the winter in the Korean coastal town of Sokcho, and follows a young woman working at a run-down hotel. Today’s choice also has a Korean theme, as we head off to spend some time by the sea. They now have a presence in both the UK and the US, and even if their list does seem more weighted towards non-fiction, I’ve enjoyed several of their books, including a few by Korean writer Hwang Sok-yong. While not all translated fiction gets picked up for an Australian release, there are a few small publishers who do put books out, and one of the most prominent is Scribe Publications.
